Course Overview

NEW

Energy, oil, and gas projects increasingly depend on digital technologies, including Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), cloud computing, edge computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). While these technologies improve operational efficiency and project delivery, they also expose critical infrastructure to sophisticated cyber threats such as ransomware, advanced persistent threats (APTs), supply chain attacks, insider threats, and attacks targeting operational technology (OT). Cybersecurity must therefore be integrated throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and engineering design to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to manage industrial cybersecurity throughout energy, oil, and gas projects. Participants learn how to identify cyber risks, secure industrial automation systems, implement cybersecurity-by-design principles, protect OT and IT environments, strengthen cyber resilience, and establish governance frameworks aligned with international standards. The course also covers cybersecurity risk assessments, network architecture, secure system integration, vendor risk management, incident response, business continuity, and compliance with globally recognized industrial cybersecurity frameworks.

Using industry best practices and technologies such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), IEC 62443, ISO/IEC 27001, MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, and industrial network monitoring solutions, participants gain hands-on experience through risk assessments, architecture design, cyber incident simulations, and real-world project case studies. By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and manage cybersecurity programs that protect critical energy infrastructure while supporting safe, reliable, and resilient project delivery.

Training on Industrial Cybersecurity Management for Energy, Oil and Gas Sector Projects FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about this course

Industrial cybersecurity management is the process of protecting operational technology (OT), industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), industrial networks, and critical infrastructure from cyber threats throughout the project and asset lifecycle. It combines governance, risk management, technical controls, incident response, and compliance to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Energy infrastructure is a frequent target for cyberattacks because it supports critical national services and global supply chains. Integrating cybersecurity into project planning and execution helps prevent operational disruptions, equipment damage, environmental incidents, financial losses, regulatory penalties, and safety risks while ensuring secure digital transformation.
Organizations commonly adopt the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), IEC 62443 for industrial automation and control systems, ISO/IEC 27001 for information security management, MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, and the CIS Critical Security Controls. These standards provide guidance for governance, risk assessment, secure system design, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
Major risks include ransomware, phishing, advanced persistent threats (APTs), insider threats, supply chain compromises, insecure remote access, vulnerabilities in SCADA and ICS environments, poorly secured Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices, cloud security weaknesses, and attacks targeting operational technology networks. These threats can affect project schedules, production, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Industrial cybersecurity knowledge enables project managers, engineers, and technical leaders to integrate security into project design, manage cyber risks throughout the asset lifecycle, protect critical infrastructure, improve compliance, strengthen operational resilience, and support secure digital transformation. As connected technologies become standard across the energy sector, cybersecurity has become a core project management and engineering competency.
