Course Overview

NEW

The oil and gas industry is rapidly adopting cloud computing to support digital oilfields, industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytics, digital twins, and enterprise-wide data integration. Cloud platforms enable organizations to collect, process, store, and analyze massive volumes of operational and business data from exploration, drilling, production, refining, pipelines, and distribution networks. However, the increasing connectivity of operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), and cloud environments also introduces new cybersecurity risks, including ransomware, data breaches, insider threats, supply chain attacks, and attacks on critical infrastructure.

This course provides participants with practical knowledge and implementation strategies for designing secure cloud-based data infrastructures and strengthening cybersecurity across oil and gas operations. Participants learn how to build scalable cloud architectures, manage enterprise data lakes and data warehouses, secure hybrid and multi-cloud environments, protect Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices, and implement zero trust security principles. The course also covers cloud governance, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, disaster recovery, incident response, regulatory compliance, and cyber resilience for critical energy infrastructure.

Using leading cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, Kubernetes, Docker, and SIEM/SOAR technologies, participants gain practical experience designing secure cloud environments for oil and gas organizations. Through hands-on exercises and real-world case studies, they develop strategies to improve data availability, operational resilience, cybersecurity posture, regulatory compliance, and digital transformation across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.

Training on Cloud-Based Data Infrastructure and Cybersecurity in Oil and Gas FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about this course

Cloud-based data infrastructure uses cloud computing platforms to store, process, integrate, and analyze operational and business data from exploration, drilling, production, refining, pipelines, and distribution. It enables scalable data management, real-time analytics, collaboration, disaster recovery, and integration with AI, digital twins, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies.
Oil and gas organizations manage critical infrastructure that is frequently targeted by ransomware, phishing, insider threats, supply chain attacks, and attacks on industrial control systems. Effective cybersecurity protects operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), cloud platforms, sensitive data, and production systems from disruptions that could impact safety, operations, the environment, and business continuity.
Organizations commonly implement frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), IEC 62443 for industrial automation and control systems, ISO/IEC 27001 for information security management, the CIS Critical Security Controls, and cloud security best practices provided by AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. These frameworks help establish governance, risk management, access control, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
Leading platforms include Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes, Docker, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, SIEM, SOAR, identity and access management (IAM) solutions, encryption services, and cloud-native security tools. These technologies support secure cloud operations, monitoring, automation, and compliance.
Cloud and cybersecurity expertise enables professionals to design resilient digital infrastructures, protect critical assets, secure industrial control systems, support regulatory compliance, improve disaster recovery, enable AI and advanced analytics, and lead digital transformation initiatives. As cloud adoption accelerates across the energy sector, these skills are increasingly essential for ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient operations.
