Course Overview

NEW

Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, rising temperatures, sea level rise, flooding, droughts, coastal erosion, and other environmental hazards that threaten oil and gas infrastructure. Pipelines, offshore platforms, refineries, processing plants, storage terminals, LNG facilities, and transportation networks must be designed, operated, and maintained to withstand changing climate conditions while ensuring operational continuity, environmental protection, and energy security. Building climate-resilient infrastructure is essential for reducing operational disruptions, protecting critical assets, minimizing financial losses, and supporting sustainable energy development.

This course equips participants with practical knowledge and engineering approaches to assess climate risks and develop resilient oil and gas infrastructure throughout the asset lifecycle. Participants learn how to conduct climate risk and vulnerability assessments, integrate climate adaptation into infrastructure planning and design, strengthen asset integrity, improve emergency preparedness, enhance business continuity, protect critical facilities from climate hazards, implement resilient maintenance strategies, and incorporate nature-based and engineering solutions into infrastructure development. The course also explores climate scenario analysis, resilient engineering design, digital monitoring technologies, infrastructure resilience metrics, sustainable asset management, and climate-related financial risks.

Participants examine internationally recognized frameworks and engineering standards, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (ISSB IFRS S2), ISO 14090 Adaptation to Climate Change, ISO 14091 Climate Change Risk Assessment, ISO 31000 Risk Management, ISO 55001 Asset Management, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Paris Agreement, IPCC Climate Risk Guidance, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Through climate risk assessments, resilience planning workshops, infrastructure vulnerability mapping, engineering adaptation exercises, and real-world case studies, participants develop the expertise to design and manage resilient oil and gas infrastructure capable of performing safely under changing climate conditions.

Training on Climate-Resilient Oil and Gas Infrastructure FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about this course

Climate-resilient oil and gas infrastructure refers to facilities that are planned, designed, constructed, operated, and maintained to withstand and recover from climate-related hazards such as flooding, extreme temperatures, storms, sea level rise, droughts, and wildfires. It ensures that critical energy assets continue to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently under changing climate conditions.
Climate resilience helps protect critical infrastructure from physical climate risks, reduces operational disruptions, improves worker safety, lowers maintenance and recovery costs, supports business continuity, strengthens energy security, enhances regulatory compliance, improves ESG performance, and safeguards long-term investments.
Key frameworks include the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (ISSB IFRS S2), ISO 14090 Adaptation to Climate Change, ISO 14091 Climate Change Risk Assessment, ISO 31000 Risk Management, ISO 55001 Asset Management, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Paris Agreement, IPCC Climate Risk Guidance, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Climate resilience measures reduce infrastructure failures, improve asset reliability, extend infrastructure life, lower lifecycle costs, strengthen emergency preparedness, support operational continuity, improve investment decision-making, enhance environmental protection, increase stakeholder confidence, and help organizations adapt to future climate risks.
This course is designed for infrastructure, civil, structural, mechanical, petroleum, and pipeline engineers; asset, maintenance, and reliability managers; project managers; climate risk specialists; environmental and sustainability professionals; HSE managers; operations managers; National Oil Company professionals; energy regulators; engineering consultants; disaster risk management specialists; and government officials responsible for planning, developing, operating, or protecting oil and gas infrastructure against climate-related risks.
