Course Overview

NEW

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has transformed the planning, design, construction, and lifecycle management of oil and gas facilities by creating intelligent digital models that improve collaboration, reduce project risks, and enhance decision-making. From refineries, processing plants, LNG terminals, pipelines, tank farms, and offshore platforms to supporting infrastructure, BIM enables multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering, procurement, construction, and operations within a single digital environment. Organizations that adopt BIM improve design quality, minimize rework, optimize construction schedules, strengthen safety planning, and reduce project costs.

This course equips participants with practical knowledge and technical skills to apply Building Information Modeling throughout the lifecycle of oil and gas facility projects. Participants learn how to create and manage BIM models, coordinate multidisciplinary engineering designs, perform clash detection, integrate 4D scheduling and 5D cost management, manage project documentation, support digital construction workflows, and prepare asset information for operations and maintenance. The course also explores Common Data Environments (CDEs), BIM execution planning, laser scanning, digital twins, GIS integration, asset information management, and collaborative project delivery for complex industrial facilities.

Participants examine internationally recognized frameworks and best practices, including the ISO 19650 series for Organization and Digitization of Information about Buildings and Civil Engineering Works, ISO 16739 Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), ISO 55001 Asset Management, BuildingSMART OpenBIM Standards, Construction Industry Institute (CII) Best Practices, Project Management Institute (PMI) Standards, FIDIC Contract Principles, and relevant API and ASME engineering standards for industrial facilities. Through hands-on BIM modeling exercises, coordination workshops, clash detection simulations, construction planning activities, and real-world case studies, participants develop the expertise to improve project delivery, collaboration, and operational readiness across oil and gas infrastructure projects.

Training on BIM for Oil and Gas Facility Design and Construction FAQs

Quick answers to common questions about this course

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital process that creates and manages intelligent 3D models containing engineering, construction, scheduling, cost, and asset information throughout the lifecycle of oil and gas facilities. It improves collaboration, design accuracy, construction efficiency, and asset management.
BIM enables multidisciplinary teams to coordinate designs, identify clashes before construction, improve project planning, reduce rework, optimize costs, enhance safety, support digital collaboration, and provide accurate asset information for operations and maintenance. It improves project delivery across refineries, pipelines, LNG facilities, offshore platforms, and processing plants.
Key standards include the ISO 19650 series for information management using BIM, ISO 16739 Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), ISO 55001 Asset Management, BuildingSMART OpenBIM Standards, Construction Industry Institute (CII) Best Practices, Project Management Institute (PMI) Standards, FIDIC contract principles, and relevant API and ASME engineering standards for industrial facilities.
Implementing BIM improves design coordination, reduces construction errors, minimizes project delays, enhances cost control, strengthens communication among stakeholders, supports digital project delivery, improves asset lifecycle management, increases operational efficiency, and enables the development of digital twins for long-term facility management.
This course is designed for civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, process, and petroleum engineers; project and construction managers; BIM managers, coordinators, and modelers; EPC contractors; asset and facility managers; quantity surveyors; CAD technicians; consultants; and National Oil Company professionals involved in the planning, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of oil and gas facilities.
